Tasting Notes Maison J. Thorin Brouilly
Bright garnet red in color with a beautiful concentration and freshness, featuring notes of ripe black cherry and sweet spices, and perhaps even some of those lovely wine gums. A warm and rich Cru du Beaujolais with light tannins and a long finish. This Brouilly is best enjoyed when young, but can be aged for 3-4 years.
Wine & Food
A perfect companion to roasted poultry, duck breast with a cherry sauce, various moderately intense cheeses, and of course, coq au vin! Serve this Brouilly from Thorin between 15 and 16°C.
Additional Information
The Brouilly appellation in Beaujolais is the southernmost of the Beaujolais crus, the largest, and most diverse. Granite is the predominant subsoil in the vineyards here. It also proves to be the most exuberant! It is said to have received its name from a certain Brulius, a lieutenant in the Imperial Roman legion. It's tempting to imagine that the officer, working under Julius Caesar, displayed a character as solid and jovial as this most delightful of the Beaujolais crus!
A unique history connects the name Thorin with Beaujolais and Mâconnais. Thorin's history dates back more than 1500 years! The name likely appeared in the Beaujolais region as early as 457 AD. And even originally came from Bornholm in Denmark when they were still called Thores.
The origin of the Thorin winery is thus linked to that of a hamlet founded by the Burgundian Thores and the village of Romanèche, which later became known as Romanèche-Thorins. In 1690, under the reign of Louis XIV, there were already about a hundred people with this name in the municipality of Romanèche alone.
The eventual Thorin winery was founded by Jean Thorin in 1843. With the benefit of 180 years of traditional family experience in Beaujolais, Maison J. Thorin has acquired expertise and excellent knowledge of the diversity of these unique Crus.
Maison J. Thorin embraces innovation to create wines of exceptional and classic quality. Each bottle reflects the perfect harmony between terroir, grapes, and the art of classic winemaking. The wines open up with every sip. From delicate fruit notes to subtle layers of complexity, every wine in the Maison J. Thorin range is a masterpiece in itself.
At Maison J. Thorin, the wines reflect the geological diversity of Beaujolais in central France. Today, it is still one of the largest Beaujolais houses owned by Maison Jean Claude Boisset, with nearly 135 employees and a presence in many countries around the world.
