Tasting Note Latour-Giraud Pommard Cuvée Carmen
Deep ruby red in colour with aromas of black cherries, blackberries, blueberries and red berries, complemented by subtle notes of violets, undergrowth, spices and a light earthy undertone. The taste is powerful yet refined, with ripe tannins, fresh acidity and a long, mineral finish in which the fruit remains beautifully intact.
Decanting
Young vintages are even better after about one hour of decanting.
Aging Potential
Already beautiful, but under good conditions, this wine will continue to develop in the bottle for another 8 to 12 years.
Wine & Food Pairing
Latour-Giraud Pommard Cuvée Carmen pairs excellently with grilled côte de boeuf, entrecote, rack of lamb and game dishes such as venison or pheasant. Its elegant character also comes into its own with duck breast, mushrooms, truffle dishes and aged hard cheeses.
Additional Information
Domaine Latour-Giraud is primarily known for its exceptional Meursaults, but also produces some brilliant red Burgundies. The Cuvée Carmen is an assemblage of two special plots in Pommard and is named after Carmen, Jean-Pierre Latour's grandmother. The wine reflects the classic character of Pommard: powerful, structured, and at the same time surprisingly refined.
Grapes have been grown at Domaine Latour-Giraud since 1680, and since 1848, this has been in Meursault. Around 1980, the decision was made to bottle themselves and no longer supply to merchants. It is still the trend for grape growers in Burgundy to start making their own wine. This is why merchants are increasingly buying their own vineyards to maintain their position.
The grapes are harvested by hand and strictly selected. After fermentation, the wine matures in French oak barrels, with a portion of new wood being used. This gives the wine extra depth without the wood overpowering the fruit. The aging ensures a beautiful balance between fruit, structure, and elegance.

Fun Fact
Pommard is one of the few villages in the Côte de Beaune without Grand Cru vineyards. Nevertheless, the best Pommards have been among the most valued red Burgundies for centuries. Their combination of power, structure, and aging potential makes them beloved by collectors worldwide.
