Tasting Notes Latour-Giraud Meursault Cuvée Charles Maxime
This rich and full-bodied Latour-Giraud Meursault Cuvée Charles Maxime has aromas of butter, nuts, apple, and spice on the nose. On the palate, it has a round attack, creamy yet elegant, with finesse from the minerals and beautiful acidity. Good integration of oak, characteristic buttery notes, minerality, complexity, and absolutely gastronomic. In summary, fantastic quality for a 'regular' Meursault: roundness but also exciting acidity! Light yellow to yellowish color.
Wine & Food
Latour-Giraud Meursault Cuvée Charles Maxime pairs wonderfully with shellfish, fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, trout, eel), charcuterie, pasta, mild and soft cheeses.
Additional Information
Winemaker Jean Pierre Latour produces beautiful and refined wines that enjoy great international prestige. He is a quiet man, averse to pomp and reputation.
Grapes have been cultivated at Domaine Latour-Giraud since 1680, and since 1848, this has been done in Meursault. Around 1980, the decision was made to bottle their own wines and no longer supply merchants. It is still the trend for grape growers in Burgundy to start making their own wine. This is why merchants are increasingly buying their own vineyards to maintain their position.
The family business is now led by Jean-Pierre Latour, who is assisted by his sister Florence, among others. The domain covers 10 hectares, 80% for white grapes and 20% for red grapes. The Chardonnay vineyards are almost all located in Meursault in the communal appellation and premier cru. The red grapes mainly grow in premier cru vineyards in Pommard (Refène) and Volnay (Clos des Chênes). The company enjoys great international recognition, such as up to 95 points from Robert Parker for one of their white wines.
The Latour-Giraud Meursault Cuvée Charles Maxime is a very fine Meursault in terms of price-quality ratio, made by a fantastic authentic house.
