L’Auratae Catarratto Pinot Grigio is made from 60% Catarratto and 40% Pinot Grigio grapes. Catarratto is harvested in September, while Pinot Grigio is harvested in August.
Not only is the wine impeccably organic, but the packaging is also completely sustainable. The paper for the labels is 100% recycled, the glass is 85% recycled, the ink is vegetable-based, and the boxes are made from 100% recycled cardboard.
This winery, dating back to 1697, spans 50 hectares and has been owned by Stefano and Marina Girelli and their business partner Massimo Maggio since 2000. It is located near Vittoria, in the South of Sicily. The grapes from the Santa Tresa estate have been organically grown for many years, but three years ago, Santa Tresa decided to officially register this. As of the 2009 harvest, everything has been officially certified as organic wine.
The vineyards benefit from a cool southerly sea breeze that compensates for the inland heat. The soil is fertile due to Mount Etna.
