Tasting Notes Kleine Oranjerie Flora & Fauna Sauvignon Blanc
A fresh and expressive Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa with a distinct aromatic character. The aroma features lemongrass, lime leaf, grapefruit, and subtle honeyed notes, followed by fresh notes of tropical fruit.
The taste is richer than one might expect from a classic Sauvignon Blanc. Citrus and tropical fruit are combined with a firm, invigorating acidity. The wine is crisp and mineral, yet has sufficient body and a long, fresh finish.
Wine & Food
An excellent Sauvignon Blanc as an aperitif, but especially delicious with spicy dishes. Think of stir-fried shrimp with chili, sea bass ceviche, and grilled vegetables.
Other information
The grapes come from the Western Cape in South Africa. The wine is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc. The combination of citrus, tropical fruit, and spicy notes gives it a distinct South African character.
The wine is primarily made by Wildeberg/Kleine Oranjerie to preserve the fresh, aromatic character of Sauvignon Blanc. The current wine is aged in stainless steel, which keeps the fruit and lively acidity at the forefront.
The grapes are gently pressed and then fermented under controlled conditions in stainless steel tanks. Further aging also takes place in steel. This keeps the wine fresh and preserves the aromatic characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc.
Fun fact
Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa can taste quite different from the well-known styles from New Zealand or France. Due to the warm climate, you often get more ripe and tropical fruit, while the influence of cooler areas and its location on the Atlantic Ocean provides the necessary freshness.
