Although the Chenin Blanc grape originally comes from the Loire Valley, it only truly gained fame when it was extensively planted in the South African vineyards. Especially in the Western Cape, the southwestern part of South Africa, it thrives almost perfectly. The amount of sunshine hours, combined with the refreshing breeze from the Indian Ocean, ensures an ultimate ripening process.

The success of Kleindal lies in the location of its vineyards. The vineyards are situated around the medium-sized town of Robertson, located approximately 160 kilometers from Cape Town. The town was founded in 1853 by the Reverend William Robertson. Thanks to its favorable location on the Breede River, several wineries also found their way to Robertson. The Breede River is indispensable for viticulture in this area. It ensures that the vineyards are irrigated in the warm climate that South Africa experiences.
