Tasting Note Jordan The Prospector Syrah
The Jordan The Prospector Syrah is a powerful yet elegant red wine from Stellenbosch. The aroma reveals ripe plums, blackberries, and dark fruit, complemented by pepper, spicy notes, and a subtle smokiness. The taste is full and juicy, with concentrated fruit, fine tannins, and a beautiful spiciness. Thanks to its fresh undertone, the wine remains well-balanced, with a long and distinctive finish.
Wine & Food Pairing
An excellent accompaniment to ribeye, grilled red meat, game, and duck breast. Also delicious with lamb, stews, and hearty mushroom dishes. The spiciness of the Syrah also makes it very tasty with dishes featuring black pepper and Mediterranean herbs.
Additional Information
The wine comes from Jordan Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. The vineyards are located at an altitude of approximately 220 to 350 meters and benefit from the cooling influences of False Bay and the Benguela Current. As a result, this part of Stellenbosch is about three degrees cooler during the ripening season than further inland. This helps the Syrah retain its freshness and aromatic character.
Jordan uses different Syrah clones and ferments the wine at approximately 26–28 °C. A portion of the grapes is fermented as whole bunches in amphorae, resulting in carbonic maceration. This contributes to extra depth and complexity. The wine then matures for approximately 16 months in older French oak barrels

Fun Fact
The name The Prospector refers to the gold prospectors who flocked to South Africa in the 19th century. Jordan uses the theme of the prospector as a metaphor: just as a prospector searches for something special, the winery searches for the best places and conditions to grow Syrah.
