Tasting Note Jordan Black Magic Merlot
Jordan Black Magic Merlot is a powerful yet elegant red wine from Stellenbosch. The nose reveals ripe plums, blackcurrants and dark fruit, complemented by notes of dark chocolate, spices and subtle French oak. The palate is full-bodied and round, with juicy dark fruit, soft velvety tannins and a beautiful fresh undertone. The finish is long, spicy and elegant.
Wine & Food
An excellent accompaniment to red meat, grilled sirloin, lamb and game. Also delicious with stews, mushroom dishes and aged hard cheeses. A great choice for a hearty meal where the wine can have some character.
Additional Information
The Jordan Black Magic Merlot comes from Jordan Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The Merlot grapes come from mature vineyards on slopes with weathered granite soils. A portion of the grapes is fermented as whole berries, after which the wine ages for approximately 18 months in French oak. This provides extra depth and spiciness, while maintaining the ripe fruit and soft structure.
The Jordan winery is the only winery in Stellenbosch that owns vineyards planted in every cardinal direction. They own no less than 164 hectares in this beautiful wine region. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 160 to 410 meters and benefit from the cooling influences of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans.

Fun fact
The name Black Magic not only refers to the dark, almost inky color of the wine. Jordan's Merlot vineyards are on soils rich in black tourmaline, a mineral that darkens the granite soil. This forms a nice story behind the name of this wine.
