Tasting note Jordan Black Magic Merlot
Jordan Black Magic Merlot is a powerful yet elegant red wine from Stellenbosch. The nose reveals ripe plums, black currants, and dark fruit, complemented by notes of dark chocolate, spices, and subtle French oak. The palate is full and round, with juicy dark fruit, soft velvety tannins, and a pleasant fresh undertone. The finish is long, spicy, and elegant.
Food Pairing
An excellent companion to red meat, grilled ribeye, lamb, and game. Also delicious with stews, mushroom-based dishes, and aged hard cheeses. A great choice for a hearty meal where the wine is expected to have some character.
Additional information
The Jordan Black Magic Merlot comes from the Jordan Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The Merlot grapes are sourced from mature vineyards on slopes with weathered granite soils. A portion of the grapes undergoes whole-berry fermentation, after which the wine is aged for approximately 18 months in French oak. This adds extra depth and spiciness while preserving the ripe fruit and soft structure.
The Jordan winery is the only estate in Stellenbosch with vineyards planted in every compass direction. They own no less than 164 hectares in this beautiful wine region. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 160 to 410 meters and benefit from the cooling influences of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans.

The name Black Magic refers not only to the dark, almost ink-like color of the wine. Jordan's Merlot vineyards are situated on soils rich in black tourmaline, a mineral that darkens the granite soil. This provides a beautiful story behind the name of this wine.
