Tasting Note Goldmine Patina Chenin Blanc

The nose is fresh and inviting, with notes of melon, peach, and yellow apple, and delicate notes of lemon curd, dill, and vanilla bean. After a round attack, one tastes quince, kumquat, candied lemon, and nectarine, with subtle hints of nettle and coriander seed. The mouthfeel is full, round, and mineral, with lively acidity. Notes of fenugreek, lime, and angelica linger in the long finish.

This beautiful, complex Patina Chenin Blanc pairs well with shellfish, crustaceans, light goat cheese, risotto, or pasta vongole.

Other information

In this wine region, where only one cooperative was active in the past, the so-called "Swartland Revolution" broke out fifteen years ago. Young winemakers with new ideas came to settle there because they saw the potential in this region to make terroir wines. Now it is recognized as one of South Africa's most exciting wine regions. On the slopes of the Riebeekberg, a place where intensive gold prospecting took place at the end of the 19th century, are the vineyards that provide the fruit for this special wine.

The high-profile winery Boekenhoutskloof in Franschhoek is particularly impressive in terms of quality. Boekenhoutskloof, despite its somewhat unusual African name for 'French' Franschhoek, was founded three centuries ago by French Huguenots.

The current winemaker Marc Kent still has a connection with France. He visits at least once a year to gain new inspiration in the northern Rhône, Cornas. Back home in Franschhoek, he has made a name for himself with excellent wines such as Boekenhoutskloof Semillon, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which belong to the absolute top of South Africa.
