Tasting Notes: Geografico Vernaccia di San Gimignano
The Geografico Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a fresh and elegant white wine with aromas of citrus, green apple, peach, and white flowers, complemented by subtle notes of almond and minerality. On the palate, it is lively and refined, with crisp acidity, a beautiful structure, and a characteristic slightly almond-like finish.
Wine & Food Pairing
This Vernaccia is an excellent accompaniment to shellfish, grilled fish, and light pasta dishes. It also pairs wonderfully with salads, antipasti, and soft cheeses.
Additional Information
The Geografico Vernaccia di San Gimignano is produced by Geografico, a renowned Tuscan winery founded in 1961 by a collective of winemakers with the aim of enhancing the quality and reputation of Tuscan wines. Today, the Geografico winery is part of the Piccini Group and is known for its authentic wines that reflect the character of the region.
The wine originates from the hills surrounding the medieval town of San Gimignano in Tuscany. This area enjoys a unique reputation as the cradle of the Vernaccia grape and was also the first Italian wine region to receive DOC status in 1966. The Mediterranean climate and the calcareous and sandy soils contribute to the fresh style, aromatic finesse, and characteristic minerality of the wine.
After harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented at controlled low temperatures in stainless steel tanks. This vinification method optimally preserves the fresh fruit aromas, floral nuances, and lively acidity of the Vernaccia grape. The wine then matures for several months on fine lees, adding extra complexity and a subtle creaminess without losing its fresh character.
