This Primitivo from the quality producer Geografico has a ruby red color.
Wine & Food Pairing
Geografico Pavonero Primitivo di Manduria pairs well with grilled dishes, beef, and stews, but also with pasta.
Additional Information
The grape owes its name to the fact that it ripens early. The Latin word "primativus" and the old Italian word "primaticcio" both mean "early ripening."
The Primitivo grapes are grown on clay soil, which gives them a unique character. The grapes are carefully harvested with quality as the top priority. The grapes are then brought to the winery where a strict selection follows. Because, simply put, only the best of the best is good enough. Fermentation then takes place at a controlled temperature. Finally, the wine ages for several months in oak barrels.
The company 'Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico' was founded in 1961. It was a cooperative that has since been acquired by the Piccini family. At the Geografico winery, every vineyard that comes under management is evaluated by the geologist and the vineyard specialist. They provide advice on the best grape varieties and rootstocks. They then help the owner with the layout of the vineyard and constantly with vineyard management. An expert team of winemakers makes the wine.
Fun fact
The Pavonero Primitivo di Manduria has been included in the latest Perswijn selection (2026) and was also declared a 'Bargain'. This title is reserved for wines with an exceptionally good price-quality ratio. It is not surprising, therefore, that this Pavonero has been one of the best-selling red wines in the range for years!
