Tasting Notes False Bay Old School Syrah
Spicy, subtle nose, ripe cherry and a beautiful balance. Concentrated taste of fruit, cassis, white pepper and herbs without being overpowering. Light purple color.
Wine & Food Pairing
This False Bay Syrah is an excellent accompaniment to grilled meat, red meat, lamb, or hard cheeses.
Other Information
The wines are made at the Waterkloof Estate. In 2004, this magnificent wine estate was acquired by Paul Boutinot. Waterkloof is located on the Schaapenberg in Somerset West, Stellenbosch, just three kilometers from the ocean. The vineyards for the Waterkloof wines are located on the upper slopes of this estate, 300 meters above sea level.
They are characterized by their mineral character and elegant style; the estate is fully biodynamic. False Bay Syrah is a subtle wine with a beautiful balance, elegance and an aromatic character. This is achieved by not pressing the wine but allowing it to drain after 15 days of natural fermentation. A short maturation of 6 months in oak barrels results in a subtle hint of vanilla.
