Tasting Notes Esporão Reserva Red
The wine smells and tastes as it looks. Full of dark plums, black and red berries, clove, a hint of eucalyptus, and some vanilla. Rich but elegant. With firm, velvety tannins that guarantee fantastic development in the bottle. An intense, deep, dark color.
Wine & Food Pairing
Light up the Big Green Egg! Delicious with roasted red meat, root vegetables (e.g., beetroot), leg of lamb, stews, and smoked hams. Truly a wine to open with fellow wine lovers around the green egg.
Additional Information
The Alentejo region is characterized by very hot summer days with a strong cooling at night, followed by an extremely cold winter for Portugal. These ingredients, combined with volcanic soil and local grape varieties, form the basis of very original wines. The history of the Esporão estate dates back to the Bronze Age. During the Roman occupation, the wines were already exported throughout the Roman Empire. Click here for more wines from this winery.
Hand-picked grapes, vinification in stainless steel tanks, then aged for 12 months in oak barrels. After bottling, stored in the bottle for another 8 months before being released to the market. A wine with a powerful body, beautiful spices, herbs, and dark red fruit. Firm but not intrusive tannins in combination with the oak ensure that this wine can be stored for some time.
The label of the Esporão Red Reserva was designed by Portuguese artist Pedro A.H. Paixão. This Reserva tinto from Esporão is made from Aragonês, Trincadeira, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Alicante Bouschet grapes.
In 1985, the Reserva line was first produced. A top wine had to be produced that would showcase the power of Portugal and the Alentejo. Since then, Esporão's Red Reserva and White Reserva have been globally acclaimed for their power, balance, and sophistication.
