Tasting Notes El Coto de Rioja Rosado

As the colour suggests, this wine bursts with (especially red) fruit: strawberries, raspberries, cherries, and also some blackcurrants. The wine has structure and is juicy and full-bodied, yet with a lovely freshness. A very complete rosé.

This Rioja Rosado from El Coto is great in the sun, and great with food: for example, with a barbecue, a meal or pasta salad, a chicken sandwich or a shrimp dish..

During one of my wine trips, I visited this winery and had the pleasure of tasting this Rioja.

The El Coto de Rioja winery is a relatively young (1970) but very successful company. The winery in Oyón, just north of Logroño, is impressive due to its scale and efficiency in combination with age-old traditions.

In addition, El Coto has over 700 hectares of its own vineyards spread across 7 different locations, allowing them to achieve an optimal diversity of grape supply. Vineyard management is scientifically guided, ensuring that grapes of the highest possible quality can be produced under all circumstances.

For the aging of red wines, El Coto uses 72,000 oak barrels. This is unique in Rioja and even in the world. The result of all these efforts has ensured that El Coto produces wines with an exceptionally good price-quality ratio. In a short time, they have grown into one of the leading houses in the region. For example, El Coto Crianza is the best-selling Rioja Crianza in Spain, and El Coto blanco is even the best-selling white Rioja in the entire world!
