The tropical fruit and citrus notes burst out of the glass. Fresh and flavorful at the same time. The palate also features a lot of fruit, well balanced with its acidity. The soft aftertaste makes you long for the next sip. The wine is light yellow with a greenish tint.

This Rioja Blanco from El Coto is the ultimate terrace and aperitif wine due to its freshness. But it is also flavorful, making it suitable to pair with food: fresh salads, fried fish, a delicious seafood pasta, or, of course, in Spanish style with a paella with fish and seafood.

During one of my wine trips, I visited this winery and had the opportunity to taste this white Rioja.

The El Coto de Rioja winery is a relatively young (1970) but very successful company. The winery in Oyón, just north of Logroño, is impressive due to its scale and efficiency combined with age-old traditions.

In addition, El Coto owns over 700 hectares of vineyards spread over 7 different locations, allowing them to achieve optimal diversity in grape supply. The vineyard management is scientifically supervised, ensuring that grapes of the highest possible quality can be produced under all circumstances.

For the aging of red wines, El Coto uses 72,000 oak barrels. This is unique in Rioja and even in the world. The result of all these efforts has ensured that El Coto produces wines with an exceptionally good price-quality ratio. This has allowed them to quickly grow into one of the leading houses in the region. For example, El Coto Crianza is the best-selling Rioja Crianza in Spain, and El Coto blanco is even the best-selling white Rioja in the entire world!
