The Finca Carbonera estate is home to the highest vineyards in Rioja. The Chardonnay grapes for this wine are grown at an altitude of 875 meters. After harvest, the wine undergoes fermentation and maturation in oak barrels. Uniquely, the barrels used are not toasted but steam-treated with water. This ensures that the influence and flavor of the wood are truly supportive and that a great deal of freshness is retained in the wine.

The El Coto de Rioja winery is a relatively young (1970) but very successful company. The winery in Oyón, just north of Logroño, is impressive due to its scale and efficiency combined with centuries-old traditions.

In addition, El Coto owns over 700 hectares of its own vineyards spread across 7 different locations, allowing for an optimal diversity of grape supply. Vineyard management is scientifically supervised, ensuring that grapes of the highest possible quality can be produced under all circumstances.

Tasting Note El Coto de Rioja 875m Tempranillo

The El Coto 875m Tempranillo is an intense ruby red in the glass. The nose unfolds an inviting bouquet of cherries and other ripe red fruits, enriched with subtle notes of mocha and cocoa. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with an excellent balance: the acidity and tannins elegantly support the fruit, and the finish is persistent and warm.

Rioja Tempranillo 875 from El Coto feels right at home alongside rich meat dishes. Think of grilled lamb, stews, or tapas with chorizo. It is also a beautiful match for a snack board with Manchego or marinated olives. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
