In 1972, Al Scheid first planted vineyards in what was then an untapped and unknown Monterey County. What began as a grape-growing business that sold 100% of its production to other wineries has today grown into an absolute “premium player in the wine field”!
The Monterey region, approved as an official AVA in 1984, is one of the leading bastions of viticulture with its characteristic cool climate and home to the most amazing and sought-after Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays in California. With the chilly Monterey Bay at the top of the valley and two mountain ranges on either side, the Monterey AVA is characterized by morning fog, strong winds, cool temperatures, and abundant afternoon sunshine.
