Tasting note Covila II Rioja Magnum (1.5 L) Reserva
Spicy nose with notes of vanilla, cloves, cake spices, blackberries, and stewed fruit. Firm, ripe tannin structure, dark fruit, and hints of leather and spices. Full finish and a very dark red color. In short, a powerful and sensational Spaniard.
Food Pairing
This Covila Rioja Reserva is a classic match for an oven-roasted leg of lamb, freshly seasoned. Prefer something else? Think of other grilled (red) meat, a beef or game stew with mushrooms, a nice pheasant, a cheese board, or Spanish hams.
Additional information
This Rioja matures for 24 months in American oak barrels and then for another 12 months in the bottle. Made from 100% Tempranillo grapes. It is recommended to decant this Rioja in advance.
The wine comes from the Alavesa region in the north of the Rioja in Spain. This is also the smallest sub-region in Rioja, but it guarantees fruit of very high quality. In the north, it is sheltered by the Cantabrian Mountains, and in the south, by the Ebro River. The orientation of the vineyards toward the sun is ideal, and the Tempranillo grape thrives here on clay and limestone soil.
