Tasting Note Covila Crianza
The aroma is complex with a concentration of blackcurrant jam, some ripe red fruit, and hints of vanilla and cocoa. The texture is velvety and creamy, with the wood and fruit well integrated. The long finish completes this modern Rioja. Intense deep red color.
Wine & Food
This Covila Rioja Crianza pairs well with uncomplicated dishes, such as pasta with meat sauce, grilled sausages, veal, small game, or a hamburger. However, lovers of fuller-bodied red wines can simply enjoy this Rioja on its own.
Additional information
The wine comes from Rioja, the most famous and prestigious wine region in Spain. To the north, there is the sheltered position of the Cantabrian Mountains, and to the south, the Ebro River. The vineyards' exposure to the sun is ideal, and the tempranillo grape thrives here on a soil of clay and limestone.
Monks traveling on pilgrimage to Compostella in the Middle Ages refreshed themselves with red Rioja. They spread the region's fame throughout Europe. But the real breakthrough came in the 19th century when France was ravaged by the phylloxera epidemic. French wine merchants crossed the Pyrenees and taught winemakers in Rioja how to age their wine in small oak barrels. They continue to do so to this day.
Made from 100% Tempranillo. Traditional red vinification with long maceration of the grapes, followed by 12 months of aging in partially new American oak barrels. Released for consumption only after 8 months of bottle aging in the cellars of Bodegas de Covila.
