Tasting Note Cigliuti Barbaresco Serraboella
The wine is elegant and complex on the nose with powerful aromas of red cherries, mushrooms, and earthy notes, complemented by refined notes of rose petals. On the palate, a very soft start, followed by an explosion of juice and concentration with notes of cocoa, licorice, and juicy red cherries. The wine has a beautiful structure with lively acidity and tannins.
In young wine, these are not yet fully integrated, making them somewhat more prominent. Around 6 years after the harvest, the wine becomes more harmonious and the mouthfeel more refined. The finish is long and impressive. A wine with great aging potential and an excellent cellaring wine.
Wine & Food
Cigliuti Barbaresco Serreboella pairs well with game dishes, stews, red meat, lamb with a rich sauce, truffles, mushrooms, and hard cheeses. A perfect dinner wine!
Other information
Cigliuti is a small, charming family business in Piedmont in the Serraboella Cru, known for its excellent quality Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto wines. The Cigliuti family has been cultivating grapes and hazelnuts for centuries. Since 1964, the business has been family-owned and is currently run by the fourth and fifth generation, Renato Cigliuti and his daughters Silvia and Claudia. They lead the company with the same passion and drive. The family lives at the estate, located on top of the hill, offering a magnificent view of the vineyards. The company produces only 30,000 bottles annually, making the wines difficult to obtain.
The grapes grow in calcareous vineyards in the Serraboella Cru. The vineyards are located at an altitude of approximately 350 meters and are south-west oriented, ensuring the grapes receive sun until late in the day. The temperature differences between day and night ensure that the grapes can ripen slowly and fully, without losing their freshness.
After the manual harvest, the grapes ferment in stainless steel, after which the wine ages partly in Slavonian oak barrels and partly in medium-sized French oak barrels. This gives the wine a beautiful balance between fruit, wood, and the characteristic freshness of Cigliuti.
Awards/distinctions
The wine regularly wins (inter)national awards, and for various vintages received 3 glasses from Gambero Rosso, the highest Italian accolade.
