Tasting Note Castel Firmian Riserva Lagrein
A powerful yet elegant red wine made from 100% Lagrein, a typical grape variety from Trentino. The aroma reveals dark fruit, blueberries, and black cherries, complemented by spicy notes, vanilla, and a hint of dried fruit.
On the palate, the wine is rich and concentrated, with ripe tannins, a beautiful structure, and pleasant freshness. The oak aging provides extra depth and notes of vanilla and spices, while the dark fruit remains clearly present. The finish is long, warm, and full of character.

This Castel Firmian Riserva Lagrein pairs well with red meat, game, stews, grilled meat, and hearty pasta dishes. It also shines with mushroom dishes or aged hard cheeses.
Additional Information
The grapes come from the hills along the Adige, where Mezzacorona cultivates Lagrein at an altitude of approximately 200–400 meters. The vines are traditionally trained using the pergola system. This ensures the grape bunches receive sufficient sun, while the leaves protect them from excessive radiation.
After fermentation, the wine matures in French oak barriques and then undergoes further aging in steel and in the bottle. This contributes to the powerful yet rounded style of this Riserva.
Mezzacorona was one of the first cooperatives in Italy and now represents a large group of wineries from the far north (Trentino) to the deep south (Sicily). The vineyards of winemaker Mezzocorona are located in Trentino and Alto Adige, the region between Verona and the Alps in Italy.

Fun Fact
Lagrein has been cultivated in Trentino since the 15th century. This makes the grape a true historical inhabitant of the Dolomites. There are also two natural variants of Lagrein: a short-stemmed and a long-stemmed variant. For this Castel Firmian Riserva, Mezzacorona uses the short-stemmed variant, which forms smaller bunches.
