Tasting Notes Castel Firmian Lagrein Trentino DOC
Deep and intense in character, with aromas of violets, ripe blackberries and blackcurrants. The oak aging adds subtle notes of chocolate, black pepper, almond, and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is firm and structured, but thanks to its fine tannins and balanced acidity, it remains smooth and approachable. A slight minerality provides extra freshness and length.

Castel Firmian Lagrein Trentino pairs excellently with rich and spicy dishes, meat dishes with a powerful sauce, grilled or smoked meat, and grilled vegetables. Also delicious with aged cheeses.
Additional Information
Lagrein is a special, indigenous grape variety from Northern Italy. It is primarily associated with Alto Adige (South Tyrol), but has also been cultivated in Trentino for centuries. A written record from 1526 even shows that Lagrein was already grown in Trentino at that time.
Lagrein is known for its dark color, firm structure, and beautiful combination of fruit and freshness. The grape naturally has quite a bit of tannins and acidity, which can make the wines powerful, but at the same time keep them well-balanced. Typical aromas include black cherries, blackberries, blueberries, and violets, complemented by spicy and sometimes earthy notes.
The name Lagrein is probably connected to the Vallagarina, a valley in Trentino. The exact origin of the name is not entirely certain; there are several theories.
Mezzacorona was one of the first cooperatives in Italy and today represents a large group of wineries from the far north (Trentino) to the deep south (Sicily). The vineyards of winemaker Mezzocorona are located in Trentino and Alto Adige, the region between Verona and the Alps in Italy.
