Tasting Note Carl Ehrhard Berg Roseneck Spätburgunder
This German version of the Pinot Noir has sparkling red fruit on the nose, such as black cherries, dried blueberries, raspberries, bay leaf, and a hint of chocolate. On the palate, much fresh red fruit and some spices, dry, savory, and with light tannins. The wine can certainly rest in your cellar for a bit longer. Just don't force anything... Es lohnt sich! A German red with character. Clear red color.
Wine & Food
This Carl Ehrhard Berg Roseneck Spätburgunder pairs well with poultry, pork, soft white cheeses, pâté, mushrooms, and truffle risotto.
Additional information
The vineyards of Weingut Carl Ehrhard are located in the Rüdesheimer Lagen, one of the best vineyards in the Rhine. The grapes are hand-picked and undergo strict selection. After fermentation, the wine stays in 1200-liter oak vats for 6 weeks. Finally, this wine matures for another 12 months in French oak.
Carl Ehrhard embodies the new generation of German winemakers, who are betting all their cards on dry wines from classic grape varieties. After Riesling, this Spätburgunder is the most planted grape in the Rheingau.
Carl Ehrhard and his family cultivate 22 hectares of Riesling and Spätburgunder spread over six excellent vineyards around the town of Rüdesheim. The estate was founded in 1815 by the Ehrhard family and has been run by Carl and his charming wife Petra since 1998.
The Ehrhards strive to make wines with personality that express the unique character of their vineyards. And with success!! Carl Ehrhard is the only German winery to be awarded "Aufsteiger des Jahres" (Newcomer of the Year) by both wine critic Eichelmann and wine magazine Vinum.
The six vineyards they own - Berg Rottland, Berg Roseneck, Bischofsberg, Kirchenpfad, Klosterberg, and Klosterlay - are located on the steep banks of the Rhine and are cultivated without the use of artificial fertilizers or herbicides.
In the winery, the Ehrhards embrace traditional methods and preserve fruit purity through minimal intervention. Fermentation takes place naturally without the addition of yeasts. These precise, powerful wines are lively and fresh in their youth and develop great depth and character while maintaining their clarity as they age.
