Tasting note Bodegas Serra da Estrela Albariño
The wine is still young, but already jumps beautifully out of the glass. The nose is emphatically dominated by fruit elements such as apricot, peaches, and ripe exotic fruit. The taste is extremely fresh and elegant, with a finish that comes across as particularly soft. Brilliant clarity with a straw-yellow color. An Albariño with a vibrant yellow hue. Spanish white at its best!
Food Pairing
"Albariños love delicacies from the sea. From fried calamari to grilled prawns. From octopus salad to a piece of white fish from the BBQ. But it is also a wine that is truly perfect to drink with a salad featuring apricots or peaches, or a delicious paella.
Other information
In the northwest of Spain, just above the border with Portugal, lies the Rias Baixas wine region. This coastal strip is particularly green and experiences moderate temperatures and wet summers. Wines from Rias Baixas are crisp, dry, and very pure. The most important grape is Albariño.
Albariño flourishes excellently in the wet north of Spain, and connoisseurs even consider the wine made from it to be the best Spanish white wine. This was different in the past, when Albariño was often used in blends with other local grapes such as Loureiro, Godello, Caiño, Arinto, or Treixadura.
Nowadays, however, the quality is so good that more and more 100% Albariño wine is being produced. Incidentally, Albariño also feels right at home in Portugal (where it is called Alvarinho), where this white powerhouse forms an important element of Vinho Verde.
