The Marcel Deiss Grasberg is an elegant and complex terroir wine with aromas of ripe citrus, lime, white peach, and apricot, refined with notes of honey, flint, and subtle spices. The palate is dry, rich, and mineral, with vibrant acidity, beautiful balance, and a long, refined finish.

Additional Information

The Grasberg comes from a steep hill near Bergheim in Alsace, where the calcareous soil and excellent sun exposure produce grapes with exceptional concentration, freshness, and minerality. The name Grasberg literally means "grass hill" and refers to the natural vegetation that contributes to rich biodiversity. The vineyard is cultivated entirely biodynamically, completely in line with the philosophy of Domaine Marcel Deiss, where the terroir is always more important than the grape variety.

As is customary with Marcel Deiss's terroir wines, the Grasberg is also produced according to the principle of complantation. Here, various traditional Alsatian grape varieties – including Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewürztraminer – are planted together, harvested simultaneously, and fermented jointly.

This creates a wine that does not reflect a single grape variety, but the unique identity of the vineyard. After a slow pressing, the must ferments spontaneously with natural yeasts, after which the wine matures for a long time on its fine lees in large traditional wooden foudres. This provides extra complexity, texture, and exceptional terroir expression.

The Grasberg has been one of the highly-rated terroir wines of the domain for years. Depending on the vintage, the wine regularly receives 94 to 96 points from James Suckling and Vinous, while older top vintages even achieved 96 points. On Vivino, the wine scores an average of 4.2 stars, making it one of the best-rated wines from Domaine Marcel Deiss.
