Tasting Note Ferme du Mont Châteauneuf-du-Pape
The nose offers aromas of red fruit (strawberries, plums) and black fruit (blackberries and blackcurrants), herbs, liquorice, and coffee. The oak aging gives the wine a creamy start, but the wine remains fresh and elegant in character. Full and ripe in flavour, yet the minerality keeps the wine elegant and refined, masking the high alcohol content. The finish is long and complex, showing a beautiful balance between ripeness, freshness, and minerality. Everything in balance. Deep purple colour.
Exciting and powerful aroma: dark fruit (blackberries, blackcurrants), ripe red fruit (strawberries, plums), autumn forest, wet leaves, and immense complexity. Soft and velvety on the palate. With concentrated fruit and freshness in abundance. The tannins are soft, the wood is well integrated. Everything in balance. Deep purple colour.
Wine & Food
Ferme du Mont Châteauneuf-du-Pape loves large roasts, game, lamb, robust Mediterranean bean dishes with garlic and olive oil, rich stews, grilled meats, and caramelised root vegetables. Not finished the bottle yet? Enjoy the wine with a cheese board.
Additional information
Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the world-famous region with its distinctive pebble-covered soil. These pebbles retain solar heat and radiate it to the grapes at night, allowing them to ripen slowly. The wine is made from grapes from very old Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre vines. The ancient Grenache is Stéphane's showpiece. Like no other, he knows how to make wines with a perfect balance between ripeness and elegance from these grapes.
Winemaker Stephane Vedeau of La Ferme du Mont is a remarkable man. He feels a strong connection to his vineyards and his wines, and he has experimented extensively with winemaking, for example in the Languedoc. However, the Southern Rhône has long been his home. To emphasise the elegance in his wines, he tries to achieve as much freshness as the region and vintage allow.
Rhône
The Rhône region has 17 characteristic crus: 8 in the north and 9 in the south. These crus are responsible for approximately 20% of Rhône wine production. One of these southern crus is the most famous worldwide, namely Châteauneuf du Pape. This wine is particularly known for its robust and complex character.
Officially, 13 different red and white grape varieties may be used in a bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine, but the base is always Grenache Rouge. A Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a fantastic wine to keep in your wine cellar. It can be stored for at least 20 years after the vintage.
Awards/Distinctions
Wine Spectator - 93 points
"Fresh and vibrant, this is made in an energetic style, exploding with a burst of blackberry and mulled cherry dusted in pepper. Reveals plum cake spices and shaved iron midpalate, making for a racy finish that’s gently encased by chalky tannins. Lovely. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2030"
