Very intense deep cherry red with immediate fruit and anise notes on the nose, predominantly ripe dark fruit (blackberries and blueberries). A hint of menthol and bay leaf in the background. It is juicy and easy to drink, with soft tannins. The intense notes of dark fruit reappear with subtle hints of cocoa against a background of liquorice and a touch of anise on the finish.

Wine & Food Pairing

BIO Codorníu Grenache pairs well with roasted leg of lamb or lamb chops. Also a perfect match for grilled vegetables, eggplant, bell peppers, zucchini, and ratatouille. The wine's acidity and tannins complement the nutty and savory ripe flavors of hard cheeses. At the same time, it is also very enjoyable on its own by the fireplace.

The winery Codorníu (founded in 1551) is a renowned winery in Spain and is primarily known for its sparkling wines, but they also produce high-quality still wines like this Grenache. Codorníu has centuries of tradition and craftsmanship and is still owned by the Codorníu family.

The unique aspect of Grenache (Garnacha) is that until a few years ago, it was the most planted red grape in the world, but its name was never seen on labels. This is because this grape is mainly used in blends. The Grenache grape needs a lot of sun and hot stones to ripen properly. It contains low tannins and is susceptible to oxidation, so it is better not to store the wine for too long.
