Tasting Notes Château Vieux Chevrol Lalande de Pomerol
Purple-red wine with a rich aroma of abundant fruit, a slight spiciness, and floral notes. On the palate, a soft initial impression with a good balance between concentration, tannins, and freshness, and flavors of liquorice, caramel, and minerals. The result is a full and elegant wine with beautiful aromas of cedar and forest fruits, and a silky finish, in which plums and truffles play a leading role. Long finish with already well-matured tannins that will become even softer in time.
Wine & Food
Château Vieux Chevrol is very good with a hearty game dish like jugged hare but also pairs very well with entrecote, lamb, and pork.
Additional information
Château Vieux Chevrol is a small family domain located just north of Pomerol on the Néac plateau. Château Vieux Chevrol has been in the hands of the Champseix family for three generations. The Champseix family's goal is to make high-quality wine that reflects the terroir but remains affordable. The 21 hectares are located on the right bank in Néac in the Lalande de Pomerol appellation, adjacent to the Pomerol vineyards.
The soil consists mainly of grey clay, gravel, and iron-rich sandstone. Due to the high proportion of clay, the soil in most places is best suited for the Merlot grape, which can tolerate moist soil better than the Cabernet grape.
The grapes are harvested by hand when they are optimally ripe. The grapes are macerated for 22 days, during which fermentation with natural yeasts takes place. The wine then ages for an average of 12 months in 600-liter French oak barrels (demi-muids).
