Tasting Notes Banyuls Rimage Grande Appellation
The aroma is very rich, ripe and sweet with notes of nuts, stewed plums and chocolate. The taste is concentrated with a long, complex finish. Bright red color.
Wine & Food Pairing
Banyuls is famous for its pairing with chocolate delicacies: brownies, Sachertorte or a chocolate moelleux. Delicious alternatives include desserts with red berries, toffee, caramel or coffee. Don't fancy something sweet? Then serve it with blue cheese or a powerful pâté. Pairs well with: chocolate, toffee, caramel and coffee desserts, blue cheese and venison pâté.
Other information
Banyuls Rimage Grande Appellation comes from Banyuls, a French village north of the Spanish border on the Mediterranean Sea. The vineyards are located in the heart of the Pyrénées-Orientales department, between the Mediterranean Sea and the Corbières, Canigou and Albères mountain ranges.
Banyuls is a 'vin doux naturel'. These are sweet dessert wines that can be made from both white and red grapes. Alcohol is added during fermentation. This kills the yeast and stops fermentation before all the sugars have been converted. The result is a sweet wine.
