Hautes Pistes means 'off-piste skiing,' daring to be adventurous. The bottle's label represents this, and so does the wine!
Jean-Charles Mathieu had a financial career in Paris, and Anthony Aubert was successful in wine marketing in the US and Thailand. These two young men knew each other from high school in Carcassonne, the heart of winemaking in Languedoc. Despite their successful start in business, their passion for wine eventually drew them back.
In September 2018, they reconnected and decided to embark on a wine merchant adventure. First, they established a set of principles that their wines should adhere to. Key terms included freshness, balance, and complexity. Then, they sought out winemakers they trusted to create wines that would meet their criteria.
The beautiful labels refer to old engravings depicting the foothills of the Pyrenees and a nod to the New World with portraits of young Californian aristocrats. An invitation to imagination and daydreaming!
