Tasting Notes Ardhuy Les Pellans Meursault
Exciting aromas of toast, almonds, butterscotch, dried citrus fruit and juicy, soft peaches. Powerful and elegant, smooth with fine mineral acidity and an attractive length. This Meursault can age beautifully for several years. Complex white Chardonnay with a hint of butter. Golden yellow colour.
Wine & Food
This Meursault from Ardhuy pairs exceptionally well with all sorts of seafood delicacies: shellfish such as scallops (coquilles Saint-Jacques), crustaceans such as lobster, or white fish like monkfish. Not a fan of fish? There are plenty of options: white meat, poultry, or pasta with a white wine sauce are just a few alternatives.
Additional Information
The vineyards are located south of Meursault, near Puligny-Montrachet at an altitude of approximately 230 meters. The soil here was formed by erosion from the higher slopes, resulting in a complex composition of limestone, marl, clay, and silt. The vines are over 50 years old and produce concentrated grapes. The wine undergoes a light oak aging, depending on the vintage.
Domaine d'Ardhuy is a Burgundy house that quickly rose to become one of the top 5 producers in the region. They offer a very extensive selection of terroirs and high quality from entry-level wines to the Grand Crus.
The Ardhuy family owns over forty hectares of vineyards, including in Puligny-Montrachet, Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot, and Corton-Charlemagne. In every wine, they strive to highlight the character of the specific vineyard or wine region as much as possible. Each plot is fermented separately, and each year the blend and aging process are determined.
Currently, the winery is in conversion to organic viticulture, for which they will be officially certified in 2023. Since 1981, the house has also owned a company in the Rhône.
The wines of d'Ardhuy are characterized by their refinement and balance, and importantly, by their good value for money.
Did you know that.....
The average winery in Burgundy has an area of 8.2 hectares? In comparison, in Bordeaux this is 17 hectares, and the European average is even 49 hectares. This difference can mainly be attributed to the subdivision and auctioning of vineyards in Burgundy by Napoleon, and the subsequent inheritance system. After the death of a winegrower, the vineyards are divided among all children, leading to even greater fragmentation of the vineyards.
