Tasting note Amstramgram L'Epicurius Malbec
Amstramgram L'Epicurius Malbec has a deep red-purple color and is full of aromas of small red fruit and herbs, such as white pepper, cinnamon, and thyme. On the palate, this L'Epicurius is beautifully smooth, round, and fruity. Flavors of pomegranate, liquorice, violets, and toasted nuts, with powerful red and black fruit notes (blackcurrants, blackberries, redcurrants). Much like its label, the wine is powerful, expressive, and refined.
Food Pairing
Amstramgram L'Epicurius Malbec is delicious with a barbecue, but also very tasty with a Moroccan lamb tagine and grilled vegetables, or with game and stews.
Additional information
Calmel & Joseph is the winery behind this wine, and they are experimenting with this Amstramgram line. The winery was founded in 1995 and is located in the Languedoc-Roussillon, where they have been producing wonderful wines with a modern twist for years.
The winery is known for, among others, the immensely popular Villa Blanche wines. This Ams Stram Gram L'Epicurius is slightly less well-known, but at least as delicious.
You would sooner expect this blend of Petit Verdot and Malbec in Bordeaux, but the winemakers in the Languedoc know how to handle it too. The grapes are hand-picked and sorted to ensure only the best grapes are used. The wine is then aged for 3 months in 2-year-old oak barrels to further develop its flavors.
The Languedoc is the largest wine region in France and roughly corresponds to the former Languedoc-Roussillon region. It stretches along the southeast coast from the Rhône to the Spanish border. The area with its sparse slopes, dry climate, and plenty of sun basically offers the ideal natural conditions required for making fine wines.
