Tasting note Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon
Expressive aroma with influences of red fruit and blackcurrants supported by characteristics of chocolate, black pepper, vanilla, and a touch of cedarwood. Eight months in French oak provides aromas of vanilla, smoke, cigar boxes, and sweet spices. This wine is rich and fresh, robust and elegant at the same time. Everything falls into place; a beautiful balance and a long finish. An intense deep red color.
Food Pairing
Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon is delicious with grilled meat, red meat, lamb, game and pasta dishes, paella, cannelloni, and ripe cheeses.
Additional information
The Alpha series from the Montes winery is the heart of all wines crafted by winemaker Aurelio Montes. Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon is made from strictly selected Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the slopes of Marchigüe and especially the steep Apalta vineyard in the Colchagua Valley along the Tinguiririca River. Here, the grapes benefit from an excellent microclimate, with poor soil consisting mainly of granite with some clay.
The wine undergoes approximately eight months of aging in French oak. This creates the characteristic notes of vanilla, smoke, cedarwood, and sweet spices, while preserving the fruit and structure of the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Moreover, Montes works with a so-called water-saving winegrowing system. By precisely determining how much water the vineyards actually need, the winery has been able to significantly reduce its irrigation water usage according to its own data.
