The nose offers aromas of lime, lemon, white peach, quince, and nectarine, complemented by wild herbs, fennel, subtle spices, and a refined saline minerality. The taste is rich and concentrated yet remarkably fresh due to vibrant acidity. The long, dry finish reveals notes of citrus, stone fruit, and a lightly saline minerality. The wine is already impressive but can be cellared for another 8 to 12 years under good conditions.

Wine & Food Pairing

Boekenhoutskloof Goldmine is an excellent match for grilled lobster, langoustines, scallops, and robust white fish like turbot or sea bass. This wine also pairs wonderfully with roasted chicken, veal with creamy sauces, or refined vegetarian dishes featuring fennel, pumpkin, or mushrooms. Thanks to its rich structure, it can even effortlessly accompany light poultry dishes with truffle or creamy risotto.

The Boekenhoutskloof Goldmine is a unique white blend from the Western Cape of South Africa. The wine is made from grapes sourced from some of the best vineyards in Swartland, Franschhoek, and Hemel-en-Aarde. Much like The Chocolate Block, Goldmine is all about character, complexity, and terroir. The result is a rich, refined white wine with tension, minerality, and an impressive length.

Each grape variety is harvested and fermented separately to preserve its unique character. The different components mature partly in large wooden vats, concrete eggs, amphorae, and partly in oak barrels. Only then is the final blend composed. This approach yields a wine with great depth, tension, and a beautiful balance between fruit, freshness, and structure.

Boekenhoutskloof is a prominent winery in Franschhoek - South Africa, particularly impressive in terms of quality. Despite its somewhat unusual African name for 'French' Franschhoek, Boekenhoutskloof was founded three centuries ago by French Huguenots.

The current winemaker, Marc Kent, still has a connection to France. He visits at least once a year to gather new inspiration in the northern Rhône, Cornas.

Goldmine...the white equivalent of Boekenhoutskloof’s “The Chocolate Block”. Great tension, ripe fruit, wild fennel, and saline minerality. Its unique taste is worth its weight in gold.

Fun Fact

The name Goldmine refers to the gold prospectors who were once active at the foot of Kasteelberg in Swartland. While they searched for gold in the ground, winemaker Marc Kent found a different kind of gold there: old Chenin Blanc vineyards that form the basis for this exceptional wine.
