The Cuvée Carmen is an assemblage of two special plots in Pommard and is named after Carmen, Jean-Pierre Latour's grandmother. The wine reflects the classic character of Pommard: powerful, structured, and at the same time surprisingly refined.

Grapes have been grown at Domaine Latour-Giraud since 1680, and since 1848, this has been in Meursault. Around 1980, the decision was made to bottle themselves and no longer supply to merchants. It is still the trend for grape growers in Burgundy to start making their own wine. This is why merchants are increasingly buying their own vineyards to maintain their position.

The grapes are harvested by hand and strictly selected. After fermentation, the wine matures in French oak barrels, with a portion of new wood being used. This gives the wine extra depth without the wood overpowering the fruit. The aging ensures a beautiful balance between fruit, structure, and elegance.

Awards/Distinctions

🏅 91 points – Jasper Morris (2021)

🏅 88–90 points – Jasper Morris (2022)

🏅 Very positively reviewed by Burgundy Report (Bill Nanson) for its beautiful balance between depth and elegance.

Fun Fact

Pommard is one of the few villages in the Côte de Beaune without Grand Cru vineyards.
